Rothay Manor is a small, friendly country house hotel in the heart of the Lake District. Set in landscaped gardens with plenty of free parking, the hotel is just 1/4 mile from the head of Lake Windermere and a short walk from the centre of Ambleside. The house was built in 1825 in the Regency style as a private residence for a prosperous Liverpool merchant and still retains many original features, with the front of the house being Grade 2 listed.
Owned and personally managed by the Nixon family for over 40 years, Rothay Manor is renowned for the warm, comfortable, relaxed atmosphere with the welcoming feel of a private house.
With 16 individually decorated bedrooms and 3 suites - 2 of which are in the grounds, the hotel can accommodate couples and families as well as people on their own. Family rooms can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children and high chairs, cots and baby-listening are available free of charge. Children's High Tea is served each day but requires pre-booking.
One ground floor room in the hotel and a suite in the grounds have been adapted to be accessible for wheelchair users in accordance with Level 2 guideline (mobility) on the National Accessible Scheme. There is a dedicated Wheelchair Access at the side of the hotel and once inside, level access to Reception, the lounges, dining room and bedroom. Both rooms have a roll-in shower with special showerchairs available.
Well-known for the excellent cuisine, the hotel restaurant has an AA Rosette and has been listed in the Good Food Guide for 38 years. The varied menu is prepared and served with flair and imagination to the highest of standards, complemented by an extensive personally compiled wine list.
Ideally situated for walking, cycling, sightseeing - why not leave the car behind and enjoy a day cruising on Windermere or take one of the full or 1/2 day mini bus Guided Tours - or just relax and 'chill out'.

How to Find Rothay Manor... From the South Leave M6 at J36 and follow A591 through to Ambleside. On reaching Ambleside and entering the 20mph zone, turn left at the traffic lights and follow the signs for Coniston which will take you past the Steamer Pier and the Lake. Driving through a series of bends, as the road straightens out you will see Ambleside Rugby Club on the left, with the hotel signs directly in front of you. Turn left at the junction and the entrance to the hotel car park is on the right just around the bend. From the North Leave M6 at J40 and follow A66 towards Keswick. After 14 miles take a left turn onto B5322 (signposted Threlkeld) to join the A591, and then turn left heading for Grasmere and Ambleside. On reaching Ambleside follow the signs for Hawkshead and Coniston, which will take you through Ambleside`s one-way system. Move over into the right-hand lane and filter right opposite the BP garage, turning left at the bottom of the road. You will see the hotel signs on the left-hand side as you drive along the road. Take the next right and the entrance to the hotel car park is on the right just around the bend. Satellite navigation does not recognise 'Rothay Bridge' as an address. The nearest roads it recognises are Borrans Road / Rothay Road which run straight past the hotel. The post-code is: LA22 0EH
