Hotel details

Description

This small family run inn is situated in the heart of the brecon beacons national park a haven for walkers and cyclists. The Inn has an AA rosette award for its food, 4 red diamond status and was the AA Inpsectors choice as Welsh Pub of the year for 2004-5. Log fire in the amply stocked bar which remains open all day provding a welcome for those coming off the hills. Only one hour to Cardiff for those important matches at the Millennium Stadium, or for culture seekers. Swansea with it new industrial and maritime museum is similarly one hour away. The inn is popular with classic car enthusiasts who enjoy the testing roads that make up the National park, and with classic rally enthusiasts competing on various Brecon Motor Club events which manage to \"borrow\" the Eppynt Ranges!

The Usk was established in the 1840s at the time of the Brecon to Merthyr Railway. It has an enviable position on the edge of the village, opposite the former railway station and yard. Imagine if you can, how the patrons of the Inn would have felt when the Wild Run of 1878 spilled the Locomotive Hercules onto Station Road! !
The Brecon to Monmouthshire canal runs along the 300 ft contour, through the centre of the village, about a quarter of a mile from the Inn, in some instances at roof level.

The Usk\'s location is as good as it gets - attracting a healthy local trade as well as visitors to the Brecon Beacons National Park. It\'s close to the heart of the Beacons, and also handy for South and Mid Wales. Guests can go walking, fishing or cruising the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, which flows through Talybont.
