I’ve stayed in my fair share of hotels in recent years but the Seeport hotel is up with the best of them. Seeport is a hotel that oozes style, whilst filling you with a sense of calm. I arrived after a busy bus ride and a walk down a random back alley to the hotel (got a bit lost) but was welcomed with a warm smile and offer of coffee. I was in Italy after all, where a cappuccino or espresso is common place several times a day.
I was checking in early, but was told my room would be ready in just five minutes, so I settled into one of the plush leisure arm chairs in the foyer to wait.
My room was at the opposite side of the hotel, but I was told the walk was worth it. My room was the best in the hotel, with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the port. Rounded pillars and a very high ceiling gave the room a salubrious feel without feeling too extravagant. The simple furnishings and Navy, grey and white sailor theme left me in no doubt that I was by the sea.
The room was immaculate; the hotel has been open for a year and still looks brand new. The bathroom was equipped with everything you might need, including specially made apothecary wash products and a super power shower that could spurt water at you from every angle. Fluffy towels and a bathrobe awaited me after washing.
The wifi, though occasionally slow was on the whole fine for getting my work done and the in room kettle kept me watered. Possibly the best part was the electric curtains. A button either side of the bed enabled me to shut and close the curtains from the comfort of bed. A perfect way to wake up. A door opened to enable you to imagine you were sat outside overlooking the port without the need for a balcony.
The hotel left two notes in the room, the first welcoming me to the hotel and a second with a new favourite quote of mine:
'I live in my dream... That's what you sense. Other people live in dreams, but not in their own. That's the difference.' H Hesse.
It made me smile as staying in this hotel really did make me feel like I was living my dream life. This hotel was a dream and it was about to get better…
The roof terrace opening part was the night I arrived, I was welcomed with their signature cocktail, large canapés and live music. All in the beautiful roof terrace setting overlooking the port. Though I dressed up for the occasion my long peacock dress was nothing compared to the stylish clientele that just kept arriving for the party. I felt like I was in a movie, everything was just spot on, from the attentive staff to the quality furniture.
The second night I got to sample the main hotel restaurant and yet again wasn’t let down. Greeted with a glass of Prosecco and various nibbles before I chose from the mouth-watering menu. I chose prawns three ways, rabbit ravioli, pigeon with cherries and a chocolate lovers dream dessert. All was just perfect, especially washed down with a local glass of wine that tasted close to my favourite New Zealand Sauvignon.
I truly loved this hotel. I was made to feel so welcome and cannot recommend it enough for a classy weekend in Ancona. Though you can happily walk around in shorts and t-shirts, make sure you bring your most stylish outfit to give the roof terrace and restaurant the clientele it deserves!
I hope I get to return one day.
